Swiss Valley Nature Preserve & Center
Overview
The Swiss Valley Nature Preserve and Center is located one mile from the Swiss Valley Park, and offers additional trout fishing, hiking, cross-country skiing on groomed trails, and a visitor center with interpretive displays. The Center is the home base for the Dubuque County Conservation Society, as well.
Swiss Valley Park offers 62 wooded acres along the meandering course of spring-fed Catfish Creek which is stocked with trout by the Iowa DNR each year. Located 4.5 miles southwest of Dubuque off Highway 20 west or Highway 151 south. This park was named for the original settlers of the area. The park contains shaded picnic areas along the rocky creek banks, offering cool relief from summer's heat. Complete picnic areas, a playground, and sports fields, in addition to modern camping sites with shower and restroom facilities makes Swiss Valley a truly family-oriented recreation area. Picnic pavilions are available to rent. Winter camping, ice fishing for trout, and cross-country skiing round out the year. A year round Park Ranger is in residence at this site.
