Beachwood Mangroves Nature Reserve

Overview
The reserve is 76ha in extent and home to the largest saltwater Mangrove community in Durban. Birdlife is excellent on the mudflats at the uMngeni River Estuary. Purplebanded Sunbird, Wattle-eyed Flycatcher and Mangrove Kingfisher (winter) occur in the Mangroves, as do mudskippers, fiddler crabs and Red Mangrove Crabs. The reserve is a Natural Heritage Site and home of the FishCare Education Program.

Driving Directions: Travel north on the M4 from Durban towards
Umhlanga. Cross over the uMngeni River and take the Riverside Road turn-off. There is a dirt track on the left before the Prospect Hall intersection, which takes you under the freeway to the reserve entrance.
