Waste Management partners with Sarasota County to manage and reduce waste from collection to disposal while recovering valuable resources and creating clean, renewable energy. Their subsidiaries provide collection, transfer, recycling, and disposal services. Waste Management are also a leading developer, operator and owner of waste-to-energy and landfill gas-to-energy facilities in the United States.
Waste Management is Sarasota County's contracted waste hauler. It has a comprehensive recycling program with a high level of staff participation and ensures staff is trained to conduct business in a way that minimizes the environmental impact.
Waste Management of Sarasota County became a Sarasota County Green Business Partner in 2008. The Green Business Partnership (GBP) encourages environmental stewardship in the commercial sector, and recognizes businesses that make an extra effort to operate in an environmentally responsible manner. This collaborative effort includes businesses, business organizations and local governments. The GBP was initiated through a grant awarded by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection to Sarasota County.
