Weavers Cottages
![Historical Feature: Institution, monument or unmarked historical area with special significance to the community's sense of place and environment. Historical Feature](https://www.opengreenmap.org/sites/default/files/taxonomy_image/historical_feature.gif)
Overview
Saline boasts a string of attractive former weavers’ cottages. During the 1790s there were 11 weavers working in the village. The 1851 Census, however, does not record any weavers living in the parish. It can only be assumed that by this time the cottage industry had not recovered from the severe and crippling depression in trade that had occurred in the winter of 1837-38. The mid-19th century was also a time when hand looms were starting to give way to steam powered looms housed in large sheds in Dunfermline and other Scottish towns.
