Overview
71 E. Mount Avenue
Queen Anne Style with Colonial Elements
Built in the late 1890s, this 2 1/2 story house is well preserved, with original clapboard and shingles on all exterior walls, porch ceilings, and gable wall ornamentation. The most prominent feature is the two-story porch wrapped around the front corner; on the corner, the handsome circular porch with its conical roof tower is not original. The large porch pillars are Colonial style. Siding on the first two floors is tan; shutters, window frames and trim are deep green; some trim is deep red. A border of shingles between first and second floors has square butts arranged in staggered overlap pattern. Sun rooms at the rear of the house were added in the 1920s. The house was built as a summer residence for the Hendricksons, a wealthy New York family; their family crest is supposedly reproduced in a stained glass window in the original dining room.
