Descripción
Architect, Tom Brown, specializes in environmentally-responsible design, emphasizing the use of passive solar sustainable design, advanced construction techniques, and the adaptive re-use and restoration of historic structures. His projects include high-performance residences, along with light commercial and institutional buildings. He designed the Mead Education & Visitor Center, which incorporates five different renewable energy systems: wind, solar photovoltaic, solar hot water, ground-source geothermal and wood biomass. This building also won the 2006 Wisconsin Governor’s Award for Excellence in Sustainable Design & Construction, the 2006 Wisconsin Sustainability & Energy Efficiency Award, the 2006 National Association of Conservation Engineers’ Award of Honor, and the 2005 Wisconsin Governor’s Service Award.
Tom Brown holds national certification by the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards and from the U.S. Green Building Council as a Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED)-Accredited Professional. Brown is a founding member of the Energy & Environmental Building Association and the Wisconsin Green Building Alliance, as well as a member of the Midwest Renewable Energy Association (MREA).
