SweetGreen
Overview
Sweet Green is a restaurant that is committed to sustainability at every level. 100% of their disposable ware is compostable (utensils, cups, bowls, and lids). They strive to choose fresh, local, in season, organic ingredients whenever possible. By choosing local foods, they are minimizing travel, which cuts down on the impact transportation has on the environment while maintaining the freshness of the food. The College Park location in particular has a partnership with Prince George's County schools; they help promote healthy eating habits in part by bringing free salads to schools once a month for lunch. If you download the app, part of the proceeds collected from those who use the app to pay, go to Prince George's County schools. The app also cuts down the need for physical menus, nutrition labels, and gift cards. SweetGreen also committed to reducing other waste. They do not give receipts unless requested, and their tables are made out of trees that were thrown away. The restaurant also offers a salad that is made from food scraps that most restaurants throw away- such as broccoli stalks, carrot peels, and cabbage cores.
