Jerusalem's main shuk, Machane Yehuda dates back to1887 and the start of the modern city. Over 250 vendors sell the freshest of Israeli produce and local specialties. Various stalls and small eateries dot the covered market and feature plates highlighting the whole of Israeli culture influence. Ethiopian food sellers abut Balkan bourekas stalls, Iraqi eateries, pita bakeries, falafel haunts and shawarma stands. Renowned dairy products and freshly caught fish from the Mediterranean and the North can also be purchased. A trip to Machane Yehuda is popular with locals and tourists alike and is a corporeal adventure should not be missed.
