Overview
74 Eighth Avenue
Queen Anne Style
Across the house's long front runs a one-story porch with ten columns, joined by balustrades which repeat on the porch roof and enclose a second floor veranda of equal length. The porch eaves are bordered with vertical spindles, and the ten porch columns across the front have corner "spider webs" quarter circles made of radiating spindles. The verge boards on the front roof gable and dormer gable have decorative sawnwork ornaments. colors include pale yellow siding all over house, on the porch rail spindles and along the porch roof; salmon house trim and salmon porch columns; a teal band around the porch; pale pink shutters; and deep read lattice work under the porch. The colors repeat in a small trestle house atop ladder stairs in the front yard.
The houses at 66, 74, and 78 Eight Avenue stand on high embankments above Eighth Avenue. This height, their considerable size and their distinctive architecture and coloring combine to make an impressive and interesting row of historic residences.
