Little Free Library
Vue d'ensemble
Little Free Libraries promote both literacy and community spirit. They look like a large version of your average bird house; however, inside each small structure are books for all ages to enjoy. The concept is: Take a Book, Leave a Book.
The idea began with Todd Bol, an entrepreneur who built the first little library in Hudson, Wisconsin. He teamed up with his friend Rick Brooks in Madison to form a non-profit group called Little Free Library. The concept has quickly taken off in many communities.
Participants in the 2012 South Wood County Teen Leadership class and local volunteers with woodworking skills made seven libraries to place throughout their communities. Students chose this project so that all local residents may enjoy reading new books at no cost and share their own books with others.
