The Shamrock Pub
Vue d'ensemble
As a green business partner, the Shamrock is doing their part to have a positive impact on the environment. The Shamrock is committed to recycling programs and waste reduction. They have developed a program focused on recycling cans, bottles and cardboard generated at the pub. Other initiatives include: using aluminum cans when possible, purchasing a wine dispensing system. They generate very little paper in their office operations and even negotiated our recycling contract to save money.
By completing a comprehensive energy audit at the Shamrock, they look to reduce their energy footprint. The Shamrock completed a number of projects and look to address future projects related to energy reduction. Examples of their initiatives include the installation of energy star televisions in the pub, purchasing new energy efficient beer coolers reducing and actively replacing with spent light bulbs with more efficient LED bulbs. The rooftop was painted white to reflect UV rays, solar powered vent fans were installed and the size of the hot-air returns were increased by 40 percent.
The Shamrock has made several changes to their supply chain. By increasing their beer storage capacity, they were able to eliminate 4 weekly deliveries. The Shamrock also looks to support Sarasota’s local businesses and breweries for purchases and return empty kegs, pallets and containers to our distributors.
The Shamrock is focused on protecting our water resources. They regularly check for and repair all leaks throughout the pub. They installed a small 8-gallon hot water heater, use a broom and 2 pitchers of water to clean sidewalk and instituted a window cleaning schedule of “as needed.” Additionally, they are evaluating the feasibility of installing low-flow faucets and toilets, and will include in these updates in their next round of renovations.
The Shamrock staff supports our community through a number of initiatives. These include:
· Active participation in the Sarasota Young Professional Group
· Hosting guest bartender nights for local charities
· Supporting the Friends of the Legacy Trail
· Annual St. Patricks’ Day block party – proceeds go to the YMCA Youth Shelter
The Shamrock became a Sarasota County Green Business Partner in 2015. The Green Business Partnership (GBP) encourages environmental stewardship in the commercial sector, and recognizes businesses that make an extra effort to operate in an environmentally responsible manner. This collaborative effort includes businesses, business organizations and local governments. The GBP was initiated through a grant awarded by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection to Sarasota County.
