This law firm's staff recognized that paper use was a significant opportunity for reduction. The firm now reuses scrap paper for note pads and printing draft copies, sends documents electronically, and has implemented a practice of bundling mailing of documents to clients, instead of sending multiple, individual mailings. Bundling documents saves energy and reduced air pollution by reducing the number of trips the staff makes to the post office. In order to save energy, the firm has installed T-8 fluorescent lighting, turns off unnecessary lights and sets its thermostat to 78 degrees.

Dent & McClain Chartered became a Sarasota County Green Business Partner in 2009. The Green Business Partnership (GBP) encourages environmental stewardship in the commercial sector, and recognizes businesses that make an extra effort to operate in an environmentally responsible manner. This collaborative effort includes businesses, business organizations and local governments. The GBP was initiated through a grant awarded by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection to Sarasota County.
