John Cannon is one of the area's premier luxury homebuilders. He has implemented a company-wide environmental policy with specific standards for recycling and energy and water conservation. Even though their main office is a new building, he has found ways to improve its environmental performance by installing compact fluorescent lighting, marking and monitoring storm drains, and using low-toxic and recycle content alternatives.
John Cannon Construction became a Sarasota County Green Business Partner in 2008. The Green Business Partnership (GBP) encourages environmental stewardship in the commercial sector, and recognizes businesses that make an extra effort to operate in an environmentally responsible manner. This collaborative effort includes businesses, business organizations and local governments. The GBP was initiated through a grant awarded by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection to Sarasota County.
