Emory University Freshman Hall Four is envisioned as one residence hall containing 380 beds as well as common area program. The residence hall has a partial ground floor accessible on grade at the north end of the site with 5 full stories of space above. The unit types include traditional doubles as well as semi-suites. The project is organized into RA communities of 25-35 beds (including one RA and two SA beds per community). The typical floors house three RA communities with shared floor lounges and study lounges distributed throughout the floor plate. The first floor houses common space for residents including a centrally located complex lounge and RA communities at the north and south wings. The first floor will be accessible from an elevated green space over structured parking. The ground floor houses apartments for Hall and Area Directors as well as storage, mechanical, electrical, and support spaces. The ground level will be accessible from a covered parking lot to be built concurrent with this project. The architectural expression of the project is in keeping with the campus design guidelines and character of the campus.
The project is located in the north east corner of the Freshman Halls master plan area. It forms the eastern edge of the main quadrangle space of the master plan. The building and site will be designed to allow for the master plan build out of a one level garage located below the central Quad. The Quad will also house a below grade cistern which will capture rain water from the roofs of the buildings surrounding the Quad to help obtain LEED credits. The project is to be constructed to meet the USGBC LEED rating system level “Silver”.
