Overview
Site for birdwatching. The Arverne Piping Plover Site was established in 1996. The site also contains a colony of nesting Least Terns, as well as a small number of nesting Oystercatchers. The City of New York, Department of Parks & Recreation’s Urban Park Rangers maintains the area. 1997 was the first year that the New York City Urban Park Rangers worked at the site on a full time basis. The rangers patrol and monitor the site and plan to eventually do some habitat enhancement.
