Overview
O Jardim Botânico de Curitiba, inaugurado em 5 de outubro de 1991, funciona como um centro de pesquisas da flora do Paraná. Contribui para a preservação e conservação da natureza, para a educação ambiental, na formação de espaços representativos da flora brasileira e ainda oferece uma alternativa de lazer para a população.
O nome oficial é uma homenagem à urbanista Francisca Maria Garfunkel Rischbieter, uma das pioneiras no trabalho de planejamento urbano de Curitiba.
Mais de 40% de sua área total que é de 178.000 m2, correspondem a um remanescente florestal típico da vegetação regional (capões), com nascentes que formam os lagos, onde uma trilha leva o visitante a um contato maior com a natureza numa área bem próxima do centro da cidade.
Sua principal atração é uma estufa de ferro e vidro com 450 m2, inspirada no Palácio de Cristal de Londres, que em seu interior abriga exemplares vegetais característicos de regiões tropicais. Emoldura a estufa um imenso jardim francês com seus canteiros geométricos, Esculturas como "A Mãe" (situada no jardim), também fazem parte da paisagem.
Atrás da estufa em formato semi-circular encontra-se o Espaço Cultural Frans Krajcberg, com exposição permanente tendo uma dimensão de 1500 metros quadrados de área construída, destina-se a abrigar exclusivamente as obras doadas pelo artista Frans Krajcberg ao Município de Curitiba.
No Museu Botânico Municipal cientistas e pesquisadores de todo o mundo encontram um dos maiores herbários do país, com o que há de mais representativo da flora paranaense e brasileira. Incentivar o amor à natureza e a sua proteção completam o trabalho científico desenvolvido pelo Museu.
Conhecer e conservar o Jardim Botânico Municipal é uma demonstração de amor à Curitiba e ao meio ambiente do qual todos fazem parte.
