Mount Moreland Swallows
Overview
Picnic at the Lake Victoria Conservancy in Mount Moreland, which is the largest roost site for the Barn (European) Swallows Hirundor rustica. During their summer migration to South Africa from Europe, the swallows fly a round trip of approximately 12,000 kilometres. Just before sunset, from mid October to mid April, millions of the birds fly in to roost in the reeds.

Driving Directions: Take the N2 north from Durban towards Ballito. Take the Umdloti Beach/Verulam off-ramp and turn left towards Verulam. Turn right after approximately 1km towards Mount Moreland. Follow the 'Barn Swallow Site' directional boards on route to Mount Moreland.
