Overview
As a green business partner, Sharper Than New has made a commitment to the environment. The sharpening studio uses repurposed and reused items such as: furniture, mirrors, cabinets, tables, fabric, and carpet rugs. From a cleaning aspect, green cleaning and natural products are used throughout the studio. Owner, Krystina also uses natural knife cleaning products, like Worcestershire sauce, to restore brass knife rivets. Shaper Than New influences their dealer supply chain by requesting that their retail knives from Wüsthof are shipped using less plastic packaging and reusable boxes.
For customers, sharpened knives are returned in a unique packaging. Ends of the knives are placed in recycled wine corks and then wrapped in recycled brown wine bags. The knives are also placed in reusable bags from GBP Whole Foods. Not only does this eliminate unnecessary waste, but also ensures safe handling of the knives.
Giving back to the community is an important part of Sharper Than New’s sustainability program. They donate 100% in-kind services to Mote Marine Laboratory and GBP All-Faiths Food Bank’s Cooking Matters Program.
Sharper Than New can be found at the Sarasota Farmers Market every Saturday from 7 am - 1 pm.
Sharper Than New became a Sarasota County Green Business Partner in 2015. The Green Business Partnership (GBP) encourages environmental stewardship in the commercial sector, and recognizes businesses that make an extra effort to operate in an environmentally responsible manner. This collaborative effort includes businesses, business organizations and local governments. The GBP was initiated through a grant awarded by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection to Sarasota County.
