Overview
In 1913 the Haddon Fortnightly, the local women's organization, received permission from the borough to dam a small stream in Mountwell Woods near Centre Street and Reillywood Avenue, according to Lost Haddonfield, by Douglas B. Rauschenberger and Katherine Mansfield Tassini. The purpose was to create a swimming hole. The borough deeded Mountwell Park, which included the swimming hole, to the county park system in 1928. In 1937, a large cement pool was laid replacing the mud swimming hole. Eventually the pool developed structural problems and was closed in 1973. The pool eventually shut down and is now simply woods.
