沙鹿鎮具有得天獨厚的大肚台地紅土十分適合種植地瓜，出產的地瓜鬆軟香甜；採收時期可見婦女們頭戴斗笠，在烈日下將臉部包的密不通風來採收地瓜，這是屬於大肚山常見特殊景觀。隨著季節變化輪流種植花生、芝麻、狗尾草…等旱作；特別是8-9月狗尾草花期或輪作綠肥胡麻的壯麗景觀，令人驚艷不矣。

There is the unique red soil on Dadu mountain in Shalu. And it is very suitable to plant sweet potato. The sweet potato production is sweet and soft with great fragrance. During harvesting season, women wear bamboo hats and cover their entire faces with cloth to harvest sweet potato under the scorching sun. It’s a very peculiar phenomenon, which only can be seen on Dadu mountain. Following the seasons of change, peanut, sesame, foxtail grass and other crops are also planted here. Especially during August to September, foxtail grass during the blooming season and sesame field are planted as green manure. It is a spectacular landscape to give visitors a touching feeling.
