Overview
JH SCRAPS, a community composting center operated by the Jackson Heights Beautification Group established was
established in Oct. 2012. The composting project was urged by the Jackson Heights Beautification Group’s Green Agenda for Jackson Heights, an environmental planning effort that drew more than 400 residents to 15 outreach meetings. This is an example of community advocacy and action. The rich soil that the food scraps provide once they are composted is returned to parks and green spaces in Jackson Heights.
