Overview
At Henry Street Basin, the body of water at the foot of the old Quadrozzi cement factory, the river is filled with garbage and sewage from nearby factories, combined sewage overflow outfalls, and illegal dumping. Illegal dumping has historically been a problem in Red Hook that not much has been done to stop. It is an endangerment to the aquatic life that normally thrives in the water habitats surrounding Red Hook and an end needs to be brought to it. The hope was that by attracting business back to the area the illegal dumping would stop. Ikea is right across the street and the illegal dumping is still going on.
