South West Brooklyn Industrial Development Corporation helps protect and develop local businesses in the Sunset Park, Red Hook, and Gowanus neighborhoods of Southwest Brooklyn. By advocating for local businesses in Southwest Brooklyn, SBIDC seeks to stabilize local businesses and increase the numbers of quality blue collar jobs available to local residents. In addition to providing employment services and leading commercial revitalization initiatives, SWBIDC has become a forerunner in energy alternatives by spearheading the green roof initiative.
Through working with Congresswoman Nydia M. Velazquez, SWBIDC secured $250,000 to build a 12,500 square foot green roof above Linda Tool & Die in Red Hook. This green roof not only reduces stormwater runoff and energy costs for Linda Tool & Die, it serves as a weather station for Columbia University.
SWBIDC has also created a visitors guide to Red Hook that highlights local businesses, organizations and points of interest. See below for more information.
