SCOPE is a community organization that brings people together to build a shared understanding of the qualities that make Sarasota a good place to live, work, and raise a family. This private, nonprofit organization is dedicated to engaging the community in planning for excellence through a process of open dialogue and impartial research. The goal is to establish priorities, propose solutions and monitor change to enhance the quality of life in Sarasota County. SCOPE reuses paper to reduce consumption and save money, and has removed one of every three fluorescent light bulbs to conserve energy.
SCOPE became a Sarasota County Green Business Partner in 2009. The Green Business Partnership (GBP) encourages environmental stewardship in the commercial sector, and recognizes businesses that make an extra effort to operate in an environmentally responsible manner. This collaborative effort includes businesses, business organizations and local governments. The GBP was initiated through a grant awarded by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection to Sarasota County.
