Since 1972 the Siesta Key Hardware has provided hardware items for Siesta Key residents and visitors. The store offers a range of products, including fishing equipment, beach supplies, office supplies, and more. Siesta Key Hardware & Garden is a warm and inviting establishment, where staff are knowledgable, friendly and eager to assist customers.
Siesta Key Hardware & Garden has implemented a number of green measures. Recently, most T-12 fluorescent lighting was updated to T-8 lamps with electronic ballasts. Typically, T-8 systems consume up to 40% less energy than conventional T-12 systems. The majority of shipments and inventory are received in reusable totes and containers. Plastic bags from shipping are set aside and given to customers with dogs to reuse as "clean-up" bags. Excess older shelving is donated locally to Habitat to Humanity. Shipping pallets are given to a local artist on the Key who makes attractive furniture from reclaimed wood, which is then resold in Siesta Key Hardware. Paper usage is reduced by processing invoices and statements electronically. Inventory is managed electronically. Customers are encouraged to skip a bag when possible, or bring their reusable bag. Carpooling is encouraged, and a staff member bicycles to work, regularly. Owners are always looking for more ways to be environmentally responsible.
Siesta Key Hardware & Garden became a Sarasota County Green Business Partner in 2013. The Green Business Partnership (GBP) encourages environmental stewardship in the commercial sector, and recognizes businesses that make an extra effort to operate in an environmentally responsible manner. This collaborative effort includes businesses, business organizations and local governments. The GBP was initiated through a grant awarded by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection to Sarasota County.
