uMngeni River Trail
Overview
The trail has been developed on the north bank of the uMngeni River from the Beachwood Mangroves to the Umgeni River Bird Park, and is 2km in length. The trail offers hikers several viewpoints of the uMngeni Estuary; one of the largest estuaries in Durban, and home to many migratory and local waterbirds. The estuary is a popular birding destination, particularly at low tide when the exposed central sandbanks attract large flocks of Lesser Crested Tern, Sandwich Tern and Little Tern, and rare species such as the African Black Oystercatcher, Crab Plover, Sooty Tern, and Bridled.
