9th Street Bike Lane: How to bike to Red Hook

Biking is one of the most convenient ways to reach Red Hook, considering the lack of subway stations in the neighborhood. The 9th street bicycle lane, the main port of entry for bikes into Red Hook, has existed for a few years, but was recently painted green. The green color keeps cyclists safe by clearly demarcating a space for the bike lane and ensures the bike lane stands out to vehicles. This boon to Red Hook cyclists is the first of its kind in the Red Hook area. It goes down 9th Street from 3rd Avenue to Hamilton Avenue.
The bike lanes do not stop at Hamilton Avenue though! Once you cross Hamilton Avenue under the BQE, you can connect to another (less clearly demarcated) bike lane on Clinton Street, which brings you directly to the Red Hook Pool and Recreation Center at Bay Street. From there, you can make a right onto Bay Street and connect to a bike lane which brings you into the heart of Red Hook. Navigating Red Hook by bike will become increasingly safe and accessible over time as the Brooklyn Greenway is completed.
