A Tarrytown resident describes this incident:

"My daughter and I were almost hit by a car that didn't see us as we were about to cross North Washington, going west on Main Street.

The car was turning right on to Washington from Main and couldn't see us because of the car that was parked very close to the crosswalk (the maroon car in the photo). As you know, having a parking spot so close to the crosswalk makes it difficult for cars to see pedestrians (combined with driving too fast and not taking care to make sure no one is crossing). It is really a bad place for a parking spot."

One possible solution: the addition of a curb "bump out" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Curb_extension) and potentially removing the parking space altogether.
