Peirce Hall, Kenyon's dining hall, implements composting for several important reasons. For one, composting has reduced Kenyon's food waste, allowing for a larger amount of money to be spent on healthy local foods. The composting system removes 80% of the water from food waste; this water is returned through the pipes to be reused. The Kenyon website explains that "composting provides Kenyon with free fertilizer while reducing transportation, landfill, and supply expenses."
