Exploring the Connections Between Horses and Humans
Old Kilgobbin Farm in the Dargle Valley, KwaZulu-Natal Midlands, was first home to horses in the 1880s when Meredith Fannin, an Irish settler, made the decision to stop harvesting the yellowwoods in the extensive indigenous forest surrounding his homestead, and to rather depend on horses for his living.
Today, more than 130 years later, the farm is home to another herd of horses, the integral team members of HorsePlay and their caretaker and leader, Carl Bronner.
A HorsePlay session is a great hands-on experience, an opportunity to learn the secrets of communicating with one of the most fascinating of animals, the horse. Using purebred Dutch Friesian horses, you will be given the opportunity not only to handle these magical horses, but to achieve a level of success that you’d never imagine!
HorsePlay sessions are not only for horse-lovers, but for anyone who wants to explore an enriching side of life. Playing with horses gives us an opportunity to discover how to have great relationships with the humans in our lives, be they partners, family or friends. We enter into the world of the Friesian horses, which is magical for humans but just plain horse sense for the equine partners in this experience! You will discover new aspects of yourself, whether you are a horse owner or not, and see who you are and to explore who you need to become for yourself and your partners, whether human or equine.
As Ray Hunt wrote: “ You’re not working on the horse, you’re working on yourself”.
