Overview
Situated in a historic brownstone neighborhood, construction for this newly remodeled living space began in 2008 and was recently completed. Developer of the site was R & E Brooklyn, green building consultant and design company. The project team that was responsible for the remodeling included Kiss + Cathcart Architects and general contractor GreenStreet Construction, a high-end construction firm that specializes in energy-efficient, healthy, green building. Before its conversion, this 1920s building had served over the years as a pharmacy, a Laundromat and a deli with residences above. Green Depot furnished the site with a variety of sustainable materials and products. Green energy features include photovoltaic panels for producing electric energy and solar thermal panels for radiant floor heating and hot water service. All appliances are Energy Star certified. High efficient water fixtures and flow restrictors help control and conserve usage. The house is slated to be New York’s first American Lung Association Health House (www.HealthHouse.org), meeting rigid certification standards that address moisture and humidity control, energy efficiency, air filtration and ventilation, and materials emissions.
