SAFeAGE: South African Freeze Alliance on Genetic Engineering
Visão geral
The South African Freeze Alliance on Genetic Engineering (SAFeAGE) was founded in 1999 as the campaign arm of NGOs involved with the GMO debate. Initially they served as the umbrella organisation for the anti-GMO campaign, and in 2005 we became a fully autonymous NGO.
SAFeAGE is committed to ensuring that consumers are made aware of the dangers and threats of GMO's. Thye are futher lobbying Government to adopt the precautionary principle at the very least, and at best, seek alternate, more sustainable methods of food production and farming. They would further like to impose a moratorium on all new imports and releases of GMO's until such time as sufficient, independent testing of the effects of GMOs in food and farming are proven safe.
SAFeAGE is conducting a campaign calling for the labelling of GM Foods in South Africa. Visit their website and ‘join the mailing list’ to support this campaign. They are also conducting a fund-raising drive for food testing for GM content.
