Visão geral
The St. Louis Art museum is another attraction in the Forest Park area. The museum was built as the Palace of Fine Arts for the 1904 World's Fair. Admission is free and the Art Museum has approximately 31,000 objects in its permanent collection. The collections cover virtually every culture and time period. They just reopened their study room which allows you to view prints, drawings and photographs. They also have various guided tours for individuals and families. The Art Museum also hosts individual and group activities you can sign up for. They also have celebrations for Martin Luther King Jr., Kwanzaa, and culture days. The expansion will be made in hopes of receiving LEED certification. "LEED certification provides independent, third-party verification that a building, home or community was designed and built using strategies aimed at achieving high performance in key areas of human and environmental health: sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection and indoor environmental quality." For more information on LEED certification follow this link http://www.usgbc.org/DisplayPage.aspx?CMSPageID=1988. The new galleries and public spaces will include skylights. They are also planning on making it to where you can view the museum from inside and outside the building. The St. Louis Art Museum houses pieces that directly relate to St. Louis culture and sustainability.
