Rasmus Midgett House (Hatteras Realty Waves Office)
Overview
Recently restored, the circa 1849 home is now listed in the National Register of Historic Places. This structure was the birthplace and home of famous surfman Rasmus Midgett, a true American hero who was awarded the Gold Lifesaving Medal. The restored home serves as the Waves office of Hatteras Realty.
Surfman Rasmus S. Midgett was born in 1851 and died in 1927. He received a gold lifesaving medal for single-handedly rescuing 10 men from the shipwrecked /Priscilla/ on August 18, 1899 when he was stationed at the Gull Shoal Lifesaving Station. The house has a door from that shipwreck.
