Mercado Central (Central Market) is a popular covered market in Santiago offering more than 30 small restaurants specialized in Chilean dishes. The building was constructed between 1860 and 1872 and its main feature is a cast-iron structure and roof fabricated in Glasgow, Scotland. It was declared national monument in 1984. Additionally, the market also has a wide range of vendor booths offering fruits, vegetables, fish, meat, herb, cheese, etc. Mercado Central is easy to access by Puente Cal y Canto Subway station, with the 2 train.
