The Saline Community Centre sits on the site of a school that was built in about 1840. This school was funded by private subscription and in fact was known as the Saline Subscription School. There would appear to have been a strong connection between this school and the Free Church. One piece of evidence is that the Rev. Robinson, the minister of the Free Church, was also a prominent member of the Committee of Management. There is further evidence in that in the 1851 Census Report for the parish, one John Falconer is listed as the “Free Church Teacher”. In 1889, the school appears to have closed and the building became known as Saline Public Hall. In 1918 the management of the hall was handed over to Saline Parish Council. The Hall was extended in 1924 and was further extended in 1973, and then became Saline Community Centre. The Centre is in use on most days, and evenings, of the week.
