The Broome County Division of Solid Waste continually seeks to improve the processing of solid waste in Broome County through efficient use of landfill space and the promotion of recycling to reduce the need for sending waste to the landfill.

Broome County is excited to be a partner of the MAT-EX Western/Central NY Materials Exchange Program. Mat-ex is a reuse program that provides opportunities for material exchanges to be made therefore keeping non-hazardous, reusable materials out of the landfill. The Broome County Division of Solid Waste has a series of educational programs available to schools for free. Programs are conducted by staff and through a contract with Cornell Cooperative Extension (CCE). In addition, the Division of Solid Waste can provide free assistance to your business to improve or implement a recycling program or to provide waste reduction tips.
