Overview
In English and German (German see below / Deutsch siehe unten)
In a departure from the norm of trying to make a building energy efficient by adding fancy gadgets, four apartment houses in New York City will achieve extreme energy efficiency by combining normal materials with better design. Each building features a minimum efficiency boiler, R-13 wall insulation, standard aluminum frame windows, and concrete block walls. The result: the first energy efficient buildings built for the same cost as code minimum construction. One of the buildings, 228 East Third Street is almost ready for occupancy, and a site across the street is under construction.
