Tremont Place Lofts bioswale
Rezumat
Part of the RE-Imaging Cleveland Project, this Green Infrastructure parking lot included steering committee meetings TWDC, City of Cleveland Sustainability Dept., NPI, NEORSD’s Watersheds Programs Dept., and with the private businesses that would utilize the parking lots.
A conceptual site plan using standard Grey Infrastructure practices was redesigned to include a central bioswale and pervious paver handicap parking stalls that captures all the stormwater runoff from both parking lots and infiltrate the runoff through existing sandy soil beach ridge. This will infiltrate stormwater for a 2 year storm (majority of rain events) and reduce overall peak discharges for other storm events by 44%.
Additionally, redesign of the lot using green infrastructure measures produced an overall cost savings for the project by reducing pipe sizes and reducing the number of catch basins used. This enabled the lots to be paved with concrete rather than asphalt – reducing the heat island effect and increasing the live span of the parking lot.
The URS Landscape Architecture Group (Katherine Holmok, ASLA – designer) provided pro-bono design and plant installation assistance to the Tremont West Development Corporation (TWDC).
