蔗場 Sugar Cane Collection Site

現今的夜市是早期放置運甘蔗台車的蔗場，每當甘蔗採收期，台糖公司的推廣員先向公司回報採收面積，再由鐵道部門派台車前往蔗場等待堆放甘蔗，採收好的甘蔗以牛車載至蔗場後，再以人力搬運至台車上，運回工廠磅重製糖。（蔗場的空台車是當時孩童玩樂的天堂）

Currently, night market vendors occupy this site. It was once a sugar cane collection field. When it was sugar cane harvesting season. The staff from the Taiwan Sugar Corporation would report harvesting acreage first. The railway division then sent carts to the sugar cane field. The sugar canes were transported to this collection site by oxcarts. After proper distribution, the sugar canes were manually lifted up to the carts and sent to the factory for sugar making.
(The sugar cane carts once were children favorite toy and this site was also children’s favorite play land.)
