Indigenous peoples memorial
Översikt
Designed by Oscar Niemeyer, the small cylindrical pavilion, located at Buriti plaza, was inspired in the Brazilian indigenous homes and their traditions. Therefore, the architect created an open patio, in the middle of the building, so that house works and rituals took place, just like in a real tribe. The museum displays a rich and diverse collection of Brazilian indigenous artcrafts, one of the most valuable in the country, including basket, furniture, musical instruments, ceramic and feather. The highlight of the exhibition is the ethnographic collection of 382 pieces that anthropologists Darcy and Berta Ribeiro acquired during forty years of field studies. The memorial also fetures a calendar of year-round activities and special events during the National Indigenous Day, April 19th.
Hours: Tues – Fri: 9am to 6pm. Sat, Sun, Holidays: 10 am to 6pm.
