Overview
Annie Bidwell designated the nearly 100 foot tall valley oak that is this park's namesake in remembrance of the Royal Botanist Joseph Dalton Hooker; it was later made famous by Hollywood in "The Adventures of Robin Hood." It fell in 1977, but the place it grew is registered as a California Historical Landmark. Thus, "Hooker Oak Park is one of Chico's oldest outdoor recreation facilities. Sharing it's boundary with the beautiful Big Chico Creek adjacent to Bidwell Park, this full service park offers an array of recreation and leisure activities." Amenities Include: Handicap accessible Play Equipment for ages 5-12, Covered Picnic Areas, Barbecues, Restrooms, Horseshoe Pits, a Basketball Court, Softball & Baseball Fields, and the Sherwood Forest Kids Disc Golf Course.
