Overview
Commercial fishing off the coast of Ocracoke can be traced back to the 1700s. Today, over 30 watermen from Ocracoke and surrounding communities drop their catch at the Ocracoke Seafood Company. This historic fish house was put up for sale in 2008, and the local watermen, community and the Ocracoke Foundation worked together to purchase and renovate the building. Today, it is a successful organization owned by the Ocracoke Foundation and managed by the local Working Watermen's Association. Open almost all year round, the freshest local seafood can be bought right here.
