Harrington Park Recycling Center
Overview
The DPW Department is responsible for operating the resident Recycling Center, where they accept items for recycling six days a week (closed Sunday). The items collected at the center are separated by item in containers, where they can be delivered to market, and sold for a greater value than comingled. The center accepts green, brown and clear glass containers, plastic food and beverage containers, steel/tin cans, aluminum cans, aluminum foil, clean newspaper, junk mail, magazines and office paper, cardboard, waste motor oil, and clothing at one of the charity drop off boxes. There are also bins with wood chips or finished compost available to residents to take home for their use. The DPW also provides curbside collection of metal items such as appliances, file cabinets, bicycles, lawn furniture, plumbing fixtures and pipes, etc. These items are stored in containers separated by metal type and sold to scrap vendors. They also provide curbside collection of electronics; such as TV's, VCR and DVD players, computers etc, which are also stored for pick up by an electronics vendor.
