2009 Solar Tour - Pechaitis Residence - Solar Thermal
概览
2009 Green Energy Ohio Solar Home Tour
The Pechaitis home is primarily heated by an air-source heat pump with a propane backup. Faced with the rising cost of propane (an oil derived fuel), the Pechaitis' decided to install a solar thermal collector. Manufactured by Your Solar Home Inc., the SolarsHeat panels provide supplemental heating for their living room, dining room, and kitchen. When the sun is shining, cold air is drawn from the house into the bottom of the collectors, warmed by the sun, and vented back into the house via the solar powered (photovoltaic) circulation fan. The system is controlled by a standard thermostat mounted on the bookcase in the living room. Based on the current cost of propane, the Pechaitis' expect the system to pay for itself in cost savings within five years. In addition to solar heating on the house, their above-ground pool is also heated by a 4'x20' Fafco Sunsaver solar heater.
