Tullohill Cottage
![Historical Feature: Institution, monument or unmarked historical area with special significance to the community's sense of place and environment. Historical Feature](https://www.opengreenmap.org/sites/default/files/taxonomy_image/historical_feature.gif)
Overview
Tullohill cottage is thought to be the oldest surviving cottage in Saline. It was built in 1714 as the parish schoolhouse though it was possibly not the first schoolhouse in Saline. This building continued as the schoolhouse until 1800. On Ainslie’s 1775 map, the name given for the immediate area is, however, “Tilly Hill”, “tilly” being an old Scottish word that describes unproductive clay soil.
